About the Image(s)

Baha’i Shrine and gardens was created in Haifa – Israel on the slopes of Mount Carmel last year. It is the Shrine of the Báb (meaning the gate) who was the founder of the Bábi Faith, and one of the central figures of the Baha’i Faith. He was born in Iran in 1819 and was a very prolific writer and he claimed to be a Manifestation of God, of a status as great as Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, receiving revelations as profound as the Torah, Gospel and Quran. After he abandoned his religious faith (Islam) , he was executed in 1850. It was not until 1909 that his remains were transported and interred in the Shrine that is the focal point of the gardens. The 18 garden terraces are symmetrical. The main image was created with a Nikon D850 and the Nikkor zoom lens 28-300 mm f/3.5-5.6 @ 85 mm and with these settings: ISO 64, f/8 and 11/1000 sec and shows a view from the street (sea level). The Original is a panorama from 3 images, and the Original 1 is a view of the Haifa seaport taken at the level of the Shrine.

Interesting description. When my granddaughter lived in Willmette, Illinois, there was a Baha shrine in a neighboring community. I never visited, so your description is interesting. Anyway, regarding your image, I find it attractive. I like the colors and the sharpness of the image. You made excellent use of depth-of-field, and the presence of the cars and the building at the top left adds scale, and IMV, the presence of the building does not detract from the image. It was there and it represents the natural scene. Although you used a pretty long telephoto, it wasn't opened all that far at only 85mm. I'm wondering if you had used a shorter telephoto if you may have been able to stand closer and eliminated the cars. I'm not sure if that would have improved the image, because I don't find the presence of the cars distracting.   Posted: 04/02/2024 07:38:21

Alan, I did take a bunch of images at different focal length's. This particular one was at 122 mm, but with a full frame camera with a large file size (45 MB in this case) you can accomplish the same by cropping. The street and cars gave more detail of the location.   Posted: 04/03/2024 15:42:34

Isaac, I see you probably considered my query. Now that I see the results, I must say, I like your original better. It's more natural.   Posted: 04/03/2024 18:04:21

Isaac I always learn so much history from your comments. You are definitely a renaissance man. I think the street adds to the location rather than just a temple shot.   Posted: 04/04/2024 11:27:23

Isaac, I agree, I prefer the cars to remain in your image.   Posted: 04/04/2024 13:10:10

Isaac, I like the feature image and original 2 which conveys more depth and scale. It is good that you have captured the scene from different perspective which tells the full story of the scene.   Posted: 04/10/2024 23:09:08
