About the Image(s)

Hallstatt, Austria

This is a picturesque town about 50 miles south of Salzburg, squeezed between the lake and a mountain. The word “Hall” (as well as the word (Salz”) means SALT. Above the town is a salt mine that has been worked since the Bronze Age. Hallstatt gave its name to an entire late bronze/early iron age in central Europe since spectacular artifacts and tools found in the mine demonstrated that the salt was widely traded throughout Europe. Hallstatt has become so popular as a tourist destination that the Chinese built a replica in China (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallstatt_(China))

Your image illustrates the benefits of a wide angle lens. I'm going to have to use mine more often. This scene is not one I would have thought to use such a lens. The image is well-exposed, even to the sky which was its true color and not generally overexposed as many images tend to be on a sunny day. The image is sharp, particularly showing the distinctive features of the clouds without any blurring. I assume the image was hand-held and the only critique I can offer is that had you focused just a tad to the right to have gotten the house on the hill in full and some of its surrounding shrubbery. I am particularly impressed with the fact that you even captured the small ripples on the water.   Posted: 07/01/2024 14:25:46

Tom a beautiful image as usual. I would have cropped out some of the left bringing the viewer's eye quickly to the village   Posted: 07/07/2024 10:45:36

Tom, iconic image of this village and lake. Beautiful colors and interesting clouds which enhances the image. I agree with Ed's crop.   Posted: 07/07/2024 12:36:45
