About the Image(s)

AVENUE OF THE BAOBABS, MADAGASCAR

Located on the unpaved Route 8 between Morondava and Belon’i Tsirbihina in western Madagascar lies this magnificent group of Grandidier’s Baobabs. These stately trees, taller and thinner than their relatives on the African continent, line the route as well as populating the surrounding fields. This area has come to be termed as Madagascar’s first natural monument. We visited when we toured Madagascar in 2022 and we were given the opportunity, as is every tour group, to plant future baobabs at the fields surrounding the Avenue of the Baobabs. The image shown was created at sunset in the evening.

Alan, the Baobab tree's are fascinating. Yes, these ones look different to the ones I witnessed in Tanzania which are much wider and not so tall, and most of them show the marks created by the elephants scratching their body and eating the crust. I prefer the sunset iteration making the trees into silhouettes which adds interest.   Posted: 07/02/2024 13:42:36

Nice eve photo. Nice colour gradation of eve orange colour. Choosing to capture trees of unique shapes in silhouette is perfect. What about cropping black f/g by one inch? Overall good photo   Posted: 07/05/2024 06:56:59

What a contrast between daytime and an amazing sunset. I would have cropped out some of the lower part of the image   Posted: 07/06/2024 18:33:53

Ed, both you and Vinaya said the same thing. I didn't consider that, as I felt the image was centered as I created it, but since there I have two conforming opinions othewise, I will have to revise my aesthetic viewpoint going forward.   Posted: 07/06/2024 19:22:57

Alan, very nice photo. I like the sunset silhouette, the focus of the image is the shape of the tree, hence, lacking the colour let viewer focus on the tree.   Posted: 07/07/2024 22:16:23
