About the Image(s)

During a recent visit to Iceland, I became aware of how energy efficient (non polluting )the island is. They derive their electricity from waterfalls and their hot water from lava flow (geo thermal) The entire island is heated by radiators and when you turn on the hot water it is like an instant hot.
The image was taken with a Sony RX10 M4. The image was cropped and masks were placed on the sky and geyser to increase the contrast.

What were the conditions under which you created the image? It appears that it was a cloudy day and based on the peope observing, it looks like they were standing on snow? Was that when you created the image?

That being the case, you created an image under difficult conditions. The white of the geyser against the backdrop of the cloudy day made it difficult to have the geyser, the focus of your image stand out. The only thing I could suggest that you could have done was to drop the white balance that would have accented the blues of the atmosphere and possibly made the geyser stand out a bit more, but IMV, altering the white balance in camera seems to go better when I want to emphasize the reds and oranges rather than the blues. And since geysers tend to have a brief period when they're exploding, that added to the difficulty of getting the shot, as you likely had to make snap judgements. All in all, you managed to capture what you wanted to capture.   Posted: 01/01/2025 10:25:45

In my memory, Iceland is mostly cloudy, and the geyser is hard to catch when you may only had one chance (with a tour). Especially not knowing how high water can go, you probably captured 90% of the water spray and keeping the subject big enough in the scene. Well done consider the circumstance.

Doc, indeed Iceland is a fascinating land in the strict sense of the word. Many geysers are available for photography and with a known schedule, not to mention active volanos and plenty of waterfalls.   Posted: 01/06/2025 16:32:07

A little more contrast might be desirable.   Posted: 01/06/2025 17:40:48
