April 2025 - Memorial of Rebirth – Bucharest Romania
About the Image(s)
Memorial of Rebirth “ Bucharest Romania
It commemorates the struggles and victims of the Romanian Revolution of 1989, which overthrew Communism. The memorial complex was inaugurated in August 2005 in Revolution Square, where Romania's Communist-era dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu, was publicly overthrown in December 1989.
Though officially called the Memorial of Rebirth, locals have given this monument a few unusual nicknames. It’s most commonly referred to as the “Potato on a Stick” or “Potato on a Skewer” monument, though some others compare the giant blob being pierced to an olive or a brain.
In 2012 the monument was defaced again with a splash of bright red paint that was delivered just at the bottom of the monument's "potato" by the street artist Keo as an indication of the bloodshed the monument is supposed to commemorate. The red paint makes the monument to look as though it is bleeding. The paint is so inaccessibly high that it has remained in place since it was placed there.
Created with the Nikon D5 and the Nikkor prime lens 20 mm f/1.8 and these settings: ISO 500, f/8 and 1/1600 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped

Isaac, I really don't know if there's anything you could have done to improve this image. Colors are bright and the image is sharp, properly exposed, even to the sky with good depth of field and framing. The streetlamp is not distracting as it is part of the urban scene, and you captured every bit of it. Wait until January 2026, and enter it in the new proposed themes of the new PTDD section, which have been long in coming. the addition of those themes gives those of us who enter into competition the opportunity to enter up to 8 images in an exhibition as opposed to the usual four, as had always been the case with PDIC. As far as the new proposed star path of PTDW, my views are better left unsaid.   Posted: 04/01/2025 05:58:57
