Floating Ice cubes by Dr. Isaac Vaisman, APSA, PPSA

June 2025 - Floating Ice cubes

About the Image(s)

Floating Ice cubes was created in Antarctica while being on a cruise ship. The Capitan of the boat had a special interest in whales and icebergs, so when we encounter these two pieces of floating ice cubes he steered around the so we all had a chance to see and photograph. After our tour around, another cruise ship about the same size as ours (200 passengers) passed by them. In this image we can get a good idea of the size of the floating icebergs.
The image was created with the Nikon D4 with the Nikkor zoom lens 28-300 mm f/3.5-5.6 @ 125 mm and these settings: ISO 200, f/8 and 1/1500 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped.

Nice image, well-centered (probably due to your cropping) with good depth-of-field. The presence of the other expedition ship provides a center of attraction and also serves to give good scale to the image. It's unfortunate the day wasn't a bit clearer, but haze and overcast tend to be the conditions that many individuals creating images of the arctic and antarctic have to contend with.   Posted: 06/01/2025 06:43:16

I like the red details on the ship, as well as the mood of the sky and the iceberg landscape.   Posted: 06/02/2025 15:43:03

Nice PT image, sharp image, good composition. As you have mentioned the ship is giving ref of hugeness of floating icebergs. The sky is dull but you could capture the details of it. Yes, as Tom said, red patch could create good interest in the image of almost of one tone. Overall good image.   Posted: 06/06/2025 07:05:29

Stick to the colored version. It's more interesting.   Posted: 06/07/2025 15:14:19
