Awa Odori dance festival by Pamela Liu, PPSA, EFIAP

June 2025 - Awa Odori dance festival

About the Image(s)

The piece recounts my experience attending the Awa Odori dance festival, which took place in Taiwan on April 18, 2025.
This vibrant cultural event featured around one hundred Awa Odori dance troupes from Tokyo, Japan, bringing to life the spirited traditions of Japanese folk dance. The festival not only illuminated the beauty and energy of Awa Odori but also celebrated the enduring cultural connection between Japan and Taiwan.

Many of the images you post are of folk festivals, surely a most appropriate theme for PTD. Folk festivals are displays of color and pageantry. Here, you were most fortunate to position yourself in the front of the marchers and captured an image of the marchers in their formation. The image is well-centered and the focus. of attention is on the leader marcher. I would suggest that in this instance, you could have improved the depth of field somewhat by using a higher f-number and adjusting the ISO and shutter speed accordingly to make the background images clear, as their blurring doesn't do much for aesthetic effect.   Posted: 06/01/2025 06:38:58

Nice symmetric composition of colourful dance procession. Blue sky also added beauty to the image.

I think, you have chosen F4, ISO 3200 to freeze the action.

Nice scope to play with different parameters, higher f point to make entire image sharper, slower shutter speed with improved ISO for capturing blurred action   Posted: 06/06/2025 07:59:07

Nice image . I feel that the sharpness on the leader and first row is good and the deeper you go in the image the clarity decreases focusing you on the foreground and not wandering all over the image to see the background   Posted: 06/07/2025 11:03:47

Pam, you were privileged to be able to take this vantage point right in front of the performers. Peak of action with all the dancers have one leg up. Image is sharp on the performerghtly blurred making it less distracting.   Posted: 06/07/2025 14:47:38
