About the Image(s)
This image was taken in 2013 in Myanmar supposedly during a “democratic” government. Presently, the country is ruled by a military government. I included this image as a followup to Alan’s
Inlay Lake (also sometimes spelt Innlay and Inle) is famous for the unique way of life of the local tribes, for their villages on stilts, floating gardens, fresh produce markets and well-preserved traditions

You were lucky to go there during the Obama thaw. We were there also, actually the same time Hillary Clinton visited and the junta released Aung Sun Suu Kyi from house arrest. I mentioned my reservations about this custom in my review of
Alan's image. I find your image a bit static and inadvertently posed. The white strip on the left could be cropped out.   Posted: 06/02/2025 15:41:24

Although my image was captured in Thailand, I visited Myanmar as well, and have a similar picture as yours. AFAIAC, in reply to Tom's views of the cultural aspects of neck-stretching, throughout my travels I have observed may different cultures and prefer not to judge them through the lens of my own. Ed, I am sure, both you and Isaac can provide a good medical review of the effects that process on the body, but as a cultural phenomenon, it is what it is. I agree with Tom's criticism about the image being posed, but with the new PTDW star path come January, which I characterize as "anything goes," that won't be a problem   Posted: 06/03/2025 06:04:50
Sharp image, good light but couldnt follow the selection of this image for this study group. AS it looks like a staged one, what to comment?
Agree with Tom for cutting while disturbing LHS strip   Posted: 06/06/2025 08:07:45

All your comments are appreciated. This was posed by me and not as part of a photo tour. I chose this image as a followup to Alan's to show what happens as the people mature. Alan what is the PTDW star path?   Posted: 06/07/2025 09:42:12
PTD has, as of the moment, a single star path with strict guidelines for submissions for competition. It is proposed to break the single star path into two: PTDW and PTDD, effective 1/1/26. The PTDW star path would allow set-ups, which you indicate your image was, as you posed your subjects, that are not allowed now and is more flexible than the current star path respecting other things. I characterize it as "anything goes." The PTDD star path would essentially have the same guidelines as we now have. Strict rules as to what qualifies as a travel image and what does not. It's too lengthy to go into the reasons for this here, but if you peruse the current PTD newsletter, you'll see a very thorough explanation by our Division Chairperson, Carolyn Todd-Larson explaining the change and the reasons for it.   Posted: 06/07/2025 15:10:48
