About the Image(s)

Frank Gehry Sculpture at the Atrium of the DG Bank Building
The building is located at the Pariser Platz next to the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. The building was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. Inside the formal office building is a dramatic, sculptural conference space made of wood and metal, one of his signature designs.
The large silver, curving structure is the conference room often described as resembling: a whale, a giant shell or a futuristic pod which Gehry intentionally left such interpretation open, letting people to experience his building emotionally rather than assigning a single symbolic meaning.
The image shows the symmetry of the atrium and the reflections in the glass foreground really emphasize Gehry’s sculptural centerpiece.
The image was created with a Nikon D300 with the Nikkor zoom lens 18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6 @ 18 mm and these settings: ISO 200, f/8 and 1/160 sec. The image was PP in Lightroom and slightly cropped.

Having just visited Berlin a short while ago, I never thought to go inside this building. Pity I missed it, as your image shows the impressive architectural style even to the reflections. Everything is well-exposed and colors are sharp. I am slightly bothered by the elimination of the ends of the lower glass structure, which detract from the impressive image. I think you might have stepped back a bit to have included them when you created the image.   Posted: 08/01/2026 10:11:46

Alan, the grey band at the bottom is a wall. Had I gone more backwards there would be even more obstruction.... Not all is what it seems   Posted: 08/06/2026 20:29:47

Lovely image of a wonderful sculpture. What a vision and what an incredible implementation by the architect, Frank Gehry. This is the first time I've come across this structure and I'm truly in awe of it.

You've captured it just as brilliantly. The perfectly symmetrical composition adds so much beauty to the frame and the perspective is spot on. The image is exceptionally sharp, with flawless exposure. The walls on both sides create a wonderful sense of depth, while the three silver rectangular structures in the foreground also work beautifully as leading lines, drawing the viewer's eye toward the stunning architecture. Excellent capture!

Lovely image, Isaac!   Posted: 08/06/2026 08:20:53
