About the Image(s)

Very dreamy portrait. Like the fact that you kept the background. Would have preferred the bird to be little more sharp but exposure is good as I see the catchlight in the birds eyes.   Posted: 09/07/2024 16:23:16

Just my opinion but it looks like Topaz just sharpened the subject, in doing this it ruined a good image. I am wondering if you cropped it into a portrait that you might draw more attention to the subject which is the bug on the birds nose.

I took the jpeg and cropped it to show what I mean.

Sylvie, I really like this image the way you posted it. I feel that the selective focus is adequately explained by your DOF, and it really helps pull us into the bird's world. You don't have enough sharpness to crop in much more, and to me the environment helps tell your story. The fact that the bug matches the foliage gives it a huge bump pictorially.

I believe you will gain acceptances for this image in competition.

I like the foliage and background and the way you chose to crop the image. There are two white lines to the right of the bird, not sure what they are. I find them a little distracting and probably would have removed them with the Lightroom healing tool.   Posted: 09/15/2024 11:25:38

Debbie, removing elements is specifically NOT allowed in any ND image for competition. You may get by with it, but judges often request RAW files to check these things. If you get "caught" adding or removing elements by any means other than cropping, it's possible to be banned from competition altogether. I post this here for the benefit of all participants.
