looks nice. the branches are a bit of a distraction, especially the one in front of the tail. perhaps you can selectively darken it.   Posted: 12/14/2024 13:05:24

I quite like this image. For competition purposes, the OOF branches actually make the image. Selective focus, with the sticks to either side but NOT in front of the bird's face, draws us into the brush and gives us a much stronger feel for his world, that if he were perched on a lovely hand-selected perch with a perfectly clean BG. The brush turns it from a boring "mug shot" portrait to a dynamic moment in the life of your subject.
Though in most cases I try to go with the 16:9 aspect ratio to fill the frame for competition, in this case you have a more vertical image. The bird feels a bit crowded above. I understand that you are trying to take advantage of the red berries, but I believe you could make a more vertical version with a little more headroom, and still include plenty of berries on both sides of the bird. You are going to have to draw a crop line through at least a couple of berries no matter what you do, so just accept it and play around with your crop

I like this image. It has grown on me. My first impression was another bird on a stick. I agree with Lillian how the blurred branches force your eyes to adjust and see the bird.   Posted: 12/20/2024 17:35:35

Love the berries. I would somewhat crop the space to the right of the bird.   Posted: 12/24/2024 17:55:21
