September 2025 - Masked Lapwing and chicks
About the Image(s)
Captured masked lapwing with three newly hatched chicks in a vacant lot near my house. Shot in bright sunny conditions with my A7RV and 200-600mm lens at 600mm hand-held. An ISO of 500 at 1/2000s and F6.3 – no exposure compensation used. Image cropped significantly to fill the frame with the subjects - they were quite a distance away (say 30m). Processed with Lightroom Classic (highlights reduced a little and shadows opened up). Sharpened in Topaz AI.

How lovely to have such a family group. I especially love the chick in front cuddling up. The whole thing looks a bit over- exposed to me. You mentioned exposure compensation, why would you need exposure compensation for a mirrorless camera. Are you shooting in Auto? I would crop in tighter, especially from the bright bottom, and the other sides as well.   Posted: 09/09/2025 08:54:39
