This is a very sweet portrait of what looks like a young, captive kestrel. The light is amazing and the detail excellent. The images might even succeed in Color. Unfortunately, I don't think there is enough story here to make it stand out in Nature competition.

I understand. Captive animals ARE allowed, and you can even set them up for portraits. They just can't LOOK captive, and the less evidence of humans in the image, the better. Lots of zoo animals are entered, but the ones that do well generally capture interesting behavior and omit any evidence of fences, obviously human-provided food, etc.
