I find this image almost dystopian. I wound up staring at it for awhile, trying to figure out what is going on. It's not immediately obvious that the fish the heron is holding is dead, though when you look at it of course it becomes evident. Then the massive fish it is looking at (and the implication of another leading off the right side of the image) makes the viewer wonder if this is a photo of a catastrophic environmental event. This impression is enhanced by the still water and dead appearance of the shore in the BG, no brush or reeds or any other signs of life.

Very interesting image, Tom. Not sure if it is competitive or not but I would probably boost the contrast a bit before entering.

I'd really like to know how this does if you enter(ed) it.

So, Montezuma every 7 years drains the pool (very large pool) to bring back the grass, etc. This was taken as they almost finished draining the pool, and some of the fish did not have enough water to survive, especially the larger fish. I never felt it would do well in competition, but looking for comments.
