Cool shot. I think the addition of the tree adds to the location. I think it should do well.   Posted: 06/13/2026 16:30:34

Raj, I absolutely adore this amazing bird with the crisp colors and the curve in his (her?) tail. I'm heading to CR next April to hopefully capture similar images, can't wait!

I'm undecided about leaving the entire tree in the shot. Since the bromeliad is already clipped, I think the extra vertical line is more a distraction than a favorable element. I tried a different, more vertical crop - see what you think. I also flipped it so the eye doesn't have to jump over that large compositional element to get into the image. I rotated it slightly, not sure that's the right decision.

I also added High Pass sharpening, just to show that the bird could be even sharper. I use that cause it's super fast, you may prefer a different sharpening technique.

Beautiful bird and a great capture. The color and detail are great. I agree that Lillians crop even makes it better.   Posted: 06/15/2026 16:06:03

Thanks so much for your comments...It is a male. Female is less colorful and has a much shorter tail.
