June 2026 - Green Hermit hummingbird

About the Image(s)

This is an image of a Green Hermit hummingbird photographed in Costa Rica last November. It is hovering near a feeder with the rainforest in the background.

Photographed with a Sony 7RV and a 200-600mm lens hand held at 350mm, ISO 2500, 1/2000 s and F6.3. Image cropped vertically and post processed in Lightroom Classic (highlights reduced and shadows opened up) and Topaz Photo AI to reduce noise.

Hi Graham,
You froze the wings on a hummingbird at 1/2000th? Nice. I'd open up the shadows on the face/neck area a bit, otherwise, it's a great shot.   Posted: 06/13/2026 16:33:46

Nice capture! Really cool bird.

I find it interesting that you have ghosting on the far wing without using flash. The BG is very smooth but there is still quite a bit of noise in the bird itself when opened full size. I agree with Tom that you can pull up the shadows more.

Agree with the above comments. I am a bit surprised at 350/6.3, the left wing did not get in focus.   Posted: 06/15/2026 12:28:48

Nice color and detail in the left wing. I think the crop is a bit tight.   Posted: 06/15/2026 16:11:03
