Baby Owl by Howard Frank

May 2024 - Baby Owl

About the Image(s)

I made this image at North Pond in Chicago last week. This baby owl and its mom were sitting in a tree just off the main road. It very nicely sat sleeping and occasionally opening its eyes to look around. Taken with my Nikon Z8 and 180 to 600 lens. Settings were 1/3200 sec, at f 6.3 and ISO 1400.

That's a big chick. Nice shot of jaguar. I would straighten it a bit more.   Posted: 05/06/2024 08:39:35

Sorry,
I had the wrong image. It's fixed now.   Posted: 05/07/2024 22:18:42

I know, I was trying to be funny. The chick looks a bit crunchy and oversaturated to me and I think would be better rotated slightly. There are weird artifacts in the sky.   Posted: 05/07/2024 23:33:43

Owls are my favourite subjects too. You could able to capture the nice cute expression of the bird. Editing could be bit more enhanced.

I like the owl and the pose. It's slightly more dynamic than a plain portrait. The composition is good, and the tree not too distracting.

The image as a whole is severely overprocessed, however, IMHO.

Hi Howard,
I'm in agreement with Lillian. Nice pose and composition, but very over processed with artifacts in the sky.   Posted: 05/21/2024 15:48:55
