King Chick w Muddy Wings by Lillian Roberts, APSA, GMPSA/B

September 2024 - King Chick w Muddy Wings

About the Image(s)

From South Georgia Island, a King Penguin chick who has not yet moulted stalks past his more mature cohorts. At one point, he stumbled and used his wings to break his fall, hence the mud coating them.

The color difference between the sdults and the chick really pulls attention to the subjects.. The mud splashed up on the white bellies is a perfect description of a not very inviting location. There is a lot of information in this image and it held my attention longer than normal.   Posted: 09/07/2024 20:26:49

The single juvenile really stands out well against the crush of adult penguins - they produce a nice sense of repetition broken only by the chick.   Posted: 09/08/2024 21:56:34

Love the color and detail in this image. Really shows the environment these birds live in. My eye seems to ping pong between all the colorful penguins and the one chick because its coloration is so plain.   Posted: 09/16/2024 22:08:08
