About the Image(s)

This was taken at Montezuma Wildlife center in New York State. It is an immature eagle eating a fish he just caught.
Taken with a Fuji 150-600 zoom at 600mm, f8.0, ISO 1000, 1/1250th on a Fuji X-H2s body. Post processing in Lightroom. It was backlit so the colors shifted on me and I tried to restore them to the original.

The eye is really drawn to the talons. There is a feeling of strength - just little dinosaurs. The higher contrast treatment lets the viewer see a lot of feather and wood detail. I like the overall impression this image conveys.   Posted: 09/07/2024 20:22:02

Great detail captured here and the empty background removes any possible distractions there. You've handled the lighting conditions well.   Posted: 09/08/2024 21:49:14

Tom,

The bird is very sharp here and the eye and feather edges really pop. I agree that the eye is pulled to the talons first, and it's good that the fish is similar in color to the talons. I can't tell it's a fish, but at least it doesn't look like chicken! :-)

The problem for me is that the head of the bird blends into the tree immediately behind it. This makes a judge have to pause and study the image before scoring - IOW, it reduces that immediate impact. I believe you will "finish" this image (ie, get 3 acceptances), but it may take a few tries.

Wonderful capture Tom. Nice and sharp with good color. I don't mind the bird " blending" into the environment as this is its natural environment.   Posted: 09/16/2024 22:00:05
