About the Image(s)
Nikon Z9 with 100-400 mm lens. 1/2500 sec., f/4.0, ISO 2200, 280 mm focal length, -0.7 exposure comp.
I was snowing which caused auto focus problems. This was the sharpest of the frames I captured but still has limited feather detail. Mostly I liked the story of working through the snow to get a nest ready.
Cropped in a fair amount. LR adjustments included exposure, shadows adjustment and a bit of sharpening. Additional sharpening in Topaz Sharpen.

This is a great shot. You captured it in flight carrying nesting material. If you haven't tried it, you might be able to selectively darken the red feathers - there might be some detail there in the raw file.   Posted: 12/09/2024 21:48:14

I agree with Allen although I think reprocessing to sharpen the black bird and take noise out of the background would be very helpful I would also crop out the vegetation on the right.   Posted: 12/11/2024 18:25:53

James,
Really nice image, though TBH I'm not sure I'd have picked up that it was snowing without the hint!
I believe you could bring up a little more detail in both the red and the black but first taking the image through DXO Pure Raw to enhance it, but you won't know until you try. Then massage it a bit in LR or CR before running it through Topaz AI - that can do a fair amount of sharpening as well as noise reduction.
All in all, a very successful image!

Hi James,
A successful image. Well done. I would consider the suggestions above to refine it further.   Posted: 12/18/2024 17:55:48
