About the Image(s)

This is one of my first attempts at macro photography. I found this spider weaving its web on my patio. I was able to get a lot of shots but I liked this one the most because of the back lighting.

4000 ISO, 100 mm macro, f6.3, 1/800

Debbie,

Outstanding detail here! I'm surprised you were able to get that much DOF at 6.3 in a single capture.

Normally I'm not a fan of big bright areas, but in this case it really surrounds your spider and emphasizes the detail. Keeping the web in the same focal plane really enhances this image IMHO.

Well done arthropod images tend to do well in ND competitions largely because they stand out compared to the mammals and birds that dominate competition. Also, National Insect is coming up - it's a longstanding specialty competition that would be a great first contest for this and a ny related images. Four images make up one entry. It's best not to have them be too similar to each other, but they can be of the same subject if that is your only macro collection.
