Debbie, this is a wonderful image. Very intimate, extremely sharp and perfectly exposed. I mostly agree with your cropping choices, though if you have it, I'd try it with a little bit of neck, to make it a vertical.
This will do well in competition IMHO.

Apparently, the square crop is not popular because multiple people have commented on that. Is a square crop not popular in general? Should I avoid it? I included the original. There is more neck and the body of the cormorant. Any suggestions on where I should crop? Thanks.   Posted: 09/17/2024 12:53:48

Here's what I came up with. It's a 4x5 crop, just a slight vertical. I like this because it still eliminates the bright elements to the left, and places the bird's eye at the UR power point. As I said, I don't think there is one right way to crop this image, but this option give us slightly more story by including a little more BG, including the water.
