Macaw Pair in Flight by Lillian Roberts, APSA, GMPSA/B

September 2025 - Macaw Pair in Flight

About the Image(s)

This is taken at an ancient sinkhole called Buraca das Araras. Macaws (mainly Red and Green, which these are) nest in holes around the edges. But they don't fly up and down well, so they often circle around on the ascent or descent. There is a brief period where they pass through a beam of light (near sunset) while the opposite wall is in shadow. It is the photog's mission to capture them during this brief window.

The colors against the more muted background are awesome. Excellent detail.   Posted: 09/14/2025 16:58:37

Excellent timing...nice background bokeh. perfectly sharp image and good eye contact. I wonder if the image would have been even more powerful if the birds were a bit more separated from each other.   Posted: 09/21/2025 17:53:09

Nice and sharp with wonderful color and detail. Good wing position on the front bird. It's a shame they are so close together   Posted: 09/26/2025 22:20:40
