Location: International Finals Youth Rodeo, Shawnee, Oklahoma, July 2014.
Event: Goat tying competition. The rider rides toward a tethered goat and dismounts while the horse is running. This rider lost her hat and then successfully dismounted the running horse in a graceful motion. This is a timed event and the fastest time wins.
Camera & lens: Canon 6D with a Sigma 80-400 mm f4.5-7.1 lens at 200 mm.
Exposure: Manual exposure: 1/800 sec, f/5.6, ISO 200.
Camera/lens: monopod.
Postprocessing: Photoshop for cropping, and minor brightness and contrast adjustment. Topaz Sharpen AI for sharpening.

Nice rodeo shot. My only problem is the composition. Perhaps the top of the frame close to her hat could be cropped, and some taken off the left side, to focus on the rider. The horse is a bit close to the bottom, but you do have its hooves. There is a white spot on the top left that could be cropped. Part of the horse's shadow would be cropped, but the whip? attached to her belt would be saved.   Posted: 12/17/2025 22:12:08
