April 2024 - Landing 2

About the Image(s)

Finally in last month and a half there were two interesting
competitions that I succeed to photograph. First was skiing of paraplegics and the second was final of Ski jumping world cup in Planica, Slovenia, beginning on 30th March 2023. This month I show you one from the last competition.
This is one of successful photos with panning. Due to high speeds of jumpers (over 100 km/h) shutter of 1/800 is indeed a slow shutter and you need very good panning to get the jumper sharp. At that speeds it's also hard to follow the jumper. This one was just few cm above the ground. Panning helps to get background more blurred.
Nikon P950, 150 mm on built in lens, shutter priority 1/800, F6,3, ISO 100, handheld.
Processing: crop, contrast improvement with highlights, levels, and curves in Photoshop Elements, selective sharpening in Nik.

Nice sharp exposure on the skier, good job with the panning effect as that is what you wanted to achieve. The letters on his outfit are clear and sharp. Nicely done.   Posted: 04/14/2024 15:19:34

Hi Bogdan. A fine photo of an intended motion blur all of the jumper seems to be well captured, the writing on his clothing being the tell-tale sign.   Posted: 04/23/2024 02:13:28

Well done Bogdan! Great photo. I especially like the contrast between the jumper's white suit and the dark background. Have you tried this as a B&W? I think that would be a good choice also. One thing I would try would be to leave some "room" for the skier to travel and land by not cropping so tight on the left and the bottom. Is there enough of the original to try that?   Posted: 04/30/2024 01:56:30
