About the Image(s)

This summer Carolyn and I visited the Carolinas. We first went to Charleston and then went farther south to Myrtle Beach. While in Myrtle Beach we again visited a venue called “Carolina Opry” where they have a musical show that we had previously enjoyed. Once again, we were not disappointed, we thoroughly enjoyed the show and I took a few usable pictures. I have included two versions. The color version has a nasty tint to the drummer (I don't know why). The black and white version is the one that I prefer for the group to comment on.

To me the background of the coloured version is not soothing to my eyes. The body language and facial expressions of all the music players are well captured.
To extreme left front is a head like structure which distracts a bit. Its good to retain the person who is in extreme left or could be eliminated along with distraction which is at bottom. To overcome this issue, I would have, preferably, included the front row of audience from back as that would have also given some depth of field, provided there were no other distractions, which is doubtful. Anyway, a good image in the given situation.   Posted: 01/06/2025 00:32:20

I think this image captures the feel of the music, the relaxed style of country or bluegrass. It would have been nice if the drummer wasn't cut off on the right side. Because I am partial to color, I like seeing the blue of the iconic denim jeans and the warm colors of the guitars, and I think the saturation could have been reduced a bit in the color version. Stage lighting is so often variable, most likely explaining the color tint on the drummer's face. I respect your decision to go with the black & white version. I wonder if the vertical lines on the curtain could have been straightened a bit, although I know that can be difficult.   Posted: 01/06/2025 09:25:28

I like your B&W choice. Good contrast. Looks like there wasn't enough included originally to be able to rotate a bit to make everything straight. Little more on bottom to keep shoe from being cut off? Would have liked more of the drummer included if possible. But nice treatment overall.
Looks like you had the option to zoom out and include more in the shot so you could crop it how you liked it.   Posted: 01/06/2025 11:58:20

Great musician photo. The black and white works well. I am guessing, but likely, the drummer is lite with a different form of artificial light than the main band members, as may happen. If you want to keep the color, you might select the drummer and correct the white balance in software. Still, the black and white was an excellent choice.   Posted: 01/23/2025 15:40:50

I love the black and white image. It makes the expressions on their faces stand out.   Posted: 01/27/2025 08:56:44
