Intimate interval for the newly wedded couple by Maurice Ping Leung

January 2025 - Intimate interval for the newly wedded couple

About the Image(s)

The eldest son of our good friend was married last month. The wedding ceremony took place in a small chapel in Pokfulam, close to Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island. I was invited to "help out" in taking pictures for the couple (not official photographer).

I noted an attic at the back of the chapel, harbouring a large musical organ for the chapel and could provide a bird-eyed view for the ceremony. I spent the whole period staying in the attic, capturing all my pictures for the wedding celebration. I was able to include this specific shot which the official photographer would not dream of.

Instrument: Sony alpha One wide angle 24-70 at 24mm f/18 1/40s hand held with no flash ISO 2500 (AUTO)
Routine post-processing using Capture one

Good to see such a vertical shot. Hope you also captured some close ups of the couple.
I also avoid use of flash as it changes the prevailing light thus impacting the given situation. I like your image.   Posted: 01/06/2025 00:43:34

It is indeed a unique perspective of the wedding ceremony and allows inclusion of the beautiful setting. I also appreciate avoiding use of a flash in a situation like this. I wonder if in post processing, using allowable techniques, the yellow tones could have been reduced in post processing and the lower half of the photo lightened somewhat so that it is the more prominent part of the image.   Posted: 01/06/2025 09:40:17

Nice shot. I do agree with Ardeth about making the kiss a more prominent element. Shouldn't be too difficult to lighten up the lower half of the photo.   Posted: 01/06/2025 12:01:50

I'm sure the couple will be glad to have this photo. It is a beautiful shot of the church, the wedding party and of course, the kiss. Beautiful.   Posted: 01/23/2025 15:49:01

This is a nice image of a beautiful church. The use of flash in church should definitely not be done, that is why we have such wonderfully high ISOs and noise reduction programs available to us. To me for this to be a good PJ image we should see more about the couple and the KISS and less about the church.   Posted: 01/24/2025 10:48:17
