October 2025 - Overcoming Fear
About the Image(s)
Our local House of Neighborly Service, which helps low-income and indigent people in our area find housing and get necessary food and clothing for their families, has an annual Rope for Hope fundraiser. Volunteers find sponsors who donate money for the volunteers to rappel down the side of the tallest parking garage in town. In addition to adults of all sizes and genders, the youngest rappeller was 11 years old! I was taking photos from below, while another photographer friend shot from above, so I had a more difficult time finding photos in which the rappeller's face could be seen. I liked the one of this young man because you could partially see his face and could also see the face of one of the professional climbers who was helping guide these inexperienced volunteers.
Photographed with Nikon D850, Nikon 18-300 lens at 200mm; exposure 1/320, f/9.0, ISO 320. It only required minimal processing, mostly brought down the whites/highlights of the sky that tended to be a little washed out during part of the day and brightened the guide's face a little.
