About the Image(s)

Here's another photo from the same Garth Brooks concert. This one intrigues me because of the movement of the camera as I took the photo makes it look as if there was some sort of special effects process involved.

Nikon D-70
f/5.3
1/50
ISO 1600
Lens 55 - 300 mm
Focal Length 185 mm

To me, this is such an interesting image. I wouldn't know who the musician is without your telling me, but this is obviously a concert, and the crowd fills the frame, with many facial expressions visible in spite of the blurring. That unusual effect, probably caused by the wide aperture and very slow shutter speed, actually directs my eye immediately to the performer, and in this case, I think having him positioned in the center of the frame really works compositionally.   Posted: 05/18/2026 14:47:56

Nice. It would work better if his face was visible, but perhaps this was not possible. I am wondering how you are above and behind him. Still, I like the light on the singer, and the rapture of the audience.   Posted: 05/20/2026 23:24:25

I would be interested in what others think about this as a 'suitable' image for a PJ competition. I certainly have no problem with the subject, or the story, and I think the colors are just wonderful. I do know that blurring such as panning is allowed, but this looks like it is a lens zoom while the shutter is open, which might not be 'as the eye sees the scene'. I do wonder what other people's opinion might be.   Posted: 05/24/2026 13:56:52

To me, theoretically this image may be ok for a PJ competition, but here the emphasis is more in reflecting the skill of the photographer in projecting artistic impact. I can't clearly see facial expressions of the audience as well as of the main subject. Yes, colours are fine, but in my opinion this image will not score much in a PJ competition.   Posted: 05/28/2026 03:14:57
