May 2026 - Skiing at Heavenly Valley

About the Image(s)

This should really be titled why am I bringing this image out of my archives to show it to you. I was looking for images with shadows to enter into the PSA Annual Large Print contest and ended up going way back to some images I took from a ski trip to Lake Tahoe in 2002. It was a great trip and oh by the way it had some pictures of skiers having fun at Lake Tahoe that fit the PJ category. It was also taken with my first digital camera which I still have.

Camera Settings: Creation Date: 01/13/2002 Camera: Canon EOS D-30, Shutter Speed: 1/350, Aperture f/11, ISO 200, Lens Unknown Canon Lens @ 33 mm

Post processing:, Normal LR adjustments. Small amount of dehaze. Sharpening and denoise using Topaz Photo AI.

I think this is a lovely winter scene. I really like the shadows in the snow, which give depth to the image. For me, there isn't enough of a PJ story of interest further than here area people ready to go skiing.   Posted: 05/18/2026 14:31:29

It's ok to me if your basic interest is shadows, but it appears they are more interested in getting themselves photographed than showing their skill in game.   Posted: 05/19/2026 17:24:29

It's a fine group photo of skiers. They are all looking at the camera, as if posing.
The man with the beard is holding something, perhaps a trophy? You do not say.
The one shadow of the skier on the left organizes the composition pleasantly.   Posted: 05/20/2026 22:23:11
