April 2024 - No place like home

About the Image(s)

I visit Hosier Lane, in Melbourne frequently, documenting the changing art and the community of homeless people who live here. These people are familiar with me, I buy them coffee, chat and listen to their stories. I always have permission to photograph them. This group is waiting for the homeless support service to open so they can access health care, and food.
Technical: Olympus EM1mk2 with Olympus 12-40mm lens @ 12mm
Settings: f 8, SS 1/80th sec, ISO 4000
Post - some cropping and noise reduction.

Jen, it is so sad to see this group of young people and homeless whatever the circumstances are. I am sure that drug use and abuse must be one of the main components. The graffiti on the walls strongly contrasting with the people adds interest and mystery to the image.   Posted: 04/12/2024 15:28:59

To me its an interesting image, but I would have cropped at least a part of it from above as to me there are distractions in the background. The pigeons being an added attraction, I would have waited to add, if possible, a flying bird.   Posted: 04/13/2024 03:18:45

I can see what you mean Subhash, but this is the environment these people live in and I decided to tell the whole story as well as given them a little anonymity. As for the flying bird.... I have no idea what that woud add to the story.   Posted: 04/18/2024 04:01:24

Whoa. Such a story to tell. Colorfully heartbreaking. Good job.   Posted: 04/26/2024 20:00:22

The graffiti makes the photo. It could be sharper, but, the story is truly there, with art.   Posted: 04/28/2024 02:43:27
