April 2024 - Framed

About the Image(s)

This image was taken at the Somerset House, London during the Photo London exhibit 2022. I saw this exhibit once I entered the main hall and it was my plan at first glance. I had to use the framed void in the image, all credit to the genius mind behind that art. What’s better than putting a hint of life with something inanimate. I succeeded a few times with my plan but I would say that somehow it seemed incomplete. Then this couple arrived at the scene along came my ‘hero’ and this lady’s patterned jacket gave me that bit of chaos (or diversion) I wanted. Visiting this exhibition was an enriching experience and this photo is my memento of that.

Gear and settings: Nikon D750, Nikkor 24-120 f4 @78mm, 1/400 s, f4, 200 iso, Handheld

Hi Arunanjan, I can certainly see what has attracted your attention, and as a street photography image this is wonderful with the deliberate inclusion of the shapes, colors and patterns. As a photojournalistic image I am struggling with the story - is this about an art exhibition (its not clear it is an art exhibition), or about the people attending (what story do you want to tell about them?), or a cleverly captured street image.
The image is sharp, the colors are nice and natural.
This is well spotted.   Posted: 04/09/2024 04:00:54

Hi Jen,I agree with you that this is not a photojournalistic image. This image was made out of curiosity that's what made me think it was sharable. But obviously it was not PJ image. Hope my next submission will be more on the target.   Posted: 04/13/2024 10:14:24

Had you not included the frame of the hanged image, I could see it as a street scene with a couple passing by. Both individuals are busy looking at the objects of their own interest. To me had they both been looking towards sane direction (not in the camera), the image could be better. Sharpness and colours are fine to me.   Posted: 04/13/2024 03:26:25

Thank you for your take on this image and I accept that it is not a proper 'pj' submission. But I don't agree with your suggestions about this image, (1) cropping the frame would not have made it a street scene as the red square element is there.(2) this weird interaction of the individuals made this image more interesting for me, (3) They are not looking in the same direction (also not in the camera), that is clearly visible.

I think, sharing disagreements are ok. If this anyway violates any group regulations let me know, I'll correct myself. Thanks again for taking time to share your thoughts.   Posted: 04/28/2024 23:17:28

Beautiful photo. What fun. Good eye! The storytelling might be anyone attending an art exhibit--salons and attending them.   Posted: 04/28/2024 22:57:37

Thank you. Agree with you on the storytelling part, that could have been a proper description to my submission.   Posted: 04/28/2024 23:04:57
