181 Reenactment by Judith Ponti-Sgargi, PPSA, BPSA

June 2025 - 181 Reenactment

About the Image(s)

did a composite to try it out.

Nikon Z6ii, 24-120 mm lens, 1/500 sec, f6.3, ISO 720, and focal lengths from 62 to 74 mm

I photographed the 1812 Reenactment at the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Area close to London Canada on 2025-05-04. The War of 1812, fought between the United States and Great Britain (and its First Nation allies) was caused by a complex interplay of factories, including maritime disputes, trade restrictions, and American expansionist ambitions. The United States had ambitions to expand its territories including annexing Canada.

One image does not portray the slaughter so I create a four series image.

Hi Judith, Making a four image set was a good idea. It shows a progression to the situation. It appears that there are three groups involved: Redcoats that get mowed down by a flank attack by a guerilla mixed group and the bluecoat regulars that move in at the end. War is never nice, but the use of colored uniforms of troops standing in line was certainly more definitive than we see today. Nice overcast light. Karl   Posted: 06/02/2025 14:55:18

One image does not tell the story. In the last image the two leaders are conversing and the victorious army standing.

It would have been possible to have Taps as the fourth image and to eliminate the image bottom row left showing Native Indians participating to defend their land.   Posted: 06/02/2025 16:21:04
