June 2025 - Climbing for Coconuts.
About the Image(s)
Walking in the beach in Baracoa, Cuba, we saw this guy walking and selling coconuts and coconut fruit. We went back to his space where he climbs for coconuts to sell and he treated us to watching him climb the tree and grab the coconut, which he threw on the ground. You can see the piles of coconuts he's gotten.

Hi Laurie, The picture tells a lot about this man. His clothes and home say that he is relatively poor and lives off the land. The composition works well. The coconuts are small enough that I didn't recognize that these 'stones' were coconuts at first. If the guy would have one in his hand, that might clarify the situation better. Exposure is good throughout. To my eye, there is a slight magenta cast, perhaps from time of day. Overall, it's an interesting slice-of-life image. Karl   Posted: 06/11/2025 07:48:36
Great photo. I think it may be more travel than PJ, or both. Lovely shot with great light. The focus is a bit soft but that's being really picky. Have you tried converting it to B&W with silver?   Posted: 06/16/2025 13:27:27

I think this image documents the story of climbing for coconuts showing the coconuts on the ground, the coconut trees, and the habitation. The moment might have been stronger if the man had a coconut in his hand or was reaching for one. This image might form part of a series of images on people at work.
I noted that the image was taken around 5:00 p.m. (not certain if your clock was set to Cuba time) and that the sky has a lot of magenta for this time. The white clouds appear blown out.   Posted: 06/23/2025 17:57:27
