At the Marbleized Paper Factory

In June 2017 I taught my last class for Penn State's Smeal College of Business in Florence Italy. It was a marketing course called "Finesse and Flair in Florence: Exploring the Essence of Italian Brands". As part of the six-week student experience, we visited different businesses in Tuscany and interacted with the owners of the firms. One such business is Il Papiro, a retail store chain that specializes in marbleized paper products. The students were invited to their factory and they had a chance to learn about how marbleized paper is made and they even were invited to create a product to take home. In this photo, a worker is showing how marbleized paper is made by dipping the paper into an ink swirled bath.

Hi Carolyn, what a wonderful experience this must be for your students. This is a strong HI image. The story is strong as it's clear this is a true artist, and while he might be posing for the camera, It doesn't feel posed, but rather the artist looking proudly onto his art work. The cluttered feel of the venue works to add to the story. Your settings look good, the colors look natural and his art work is just beautiful.   Posted: 05/19/2026 18:37:20

Hi Carolyn, wow what a great learning opportunity, I wish I was in your class! You really get the feel of this business and the pride this craftsman has in his work making this a great image.   Posted: 05/20/2026 00:36:28
