June 2025 - London Police Band

Original
About the Image(s)
Nikon z6ii 24-120 mm lens, May 24, 2025, London, Canada, Dundas Square
London Police Band Img 1 1/640 sec, f5.6, ISO 250, 42 mm captured at 17:18:10. Img 2 is captured 50 secs later (1/1600 sec, f5.6, ISO 250 30 mm)
The band walked toward Dundas square, with the sun behind their backs and their faces in shadow. The challenge was to frame to capture the coordinated movement of the men and find a moment when the sun/bright light did not overpower the background.
In image 2, the sun came out and I changed perspective and focal length to tell a different story.

Good street image ( I feel a similar image of this event posted before though). Good light, sharp image, a candid band shot. Their red uniform has made the photo colourful, interesting.
I liked the original photo more, even though the sun is a bit bright, for its angular composition, shadows giving more depth to an image Posted: 06/06/2025 06:50:05

I keep a record/folder of images submitted to PJ IDG 3 general and PJ IDG 3 HI, and import the images into LR. The file includes two exported images for each group: an image with the file number and an image with the title. A second way to check images submitted is to go into my account on the PJ site. It contains the image by month. If I export the image from the PJ site, it contains the title of the image.
If I submit more than one image, i.e. original and a backup, I put both images into the folder saved on my external hard drive.
I found this practice useful to remember image titles, potential images for exhibition etc.

Although I see Judth's points about the original image, I prefer the main image. I think there is more impact in the straight line of marchers coming right at me. I appreciate the composition that visualizes the street setting but eliminates unnecessary distractions from the musicians. Posted: 06/07/2025 15:34:59
Judith, I have always asked myself why men wear the kilts. Did some research and found this interesting article explaining the reason they are popular: https://veryinformed.com/why-do-scottish-men-wear-kilts/
The striking content of your image is this group of older men from the police force, in their classical and special occasions uniform playing the bagpipes. The image is sharp and nicely composed. Full of color and sharp. Posted: 06/10/2025 13:52:18
