May 2025 - Displaced
About the Image(s)
The Indigenous street children of Bogotá symbolize Colombia's persistent cycle of violence. Spanning from the Sierra Nevada mountains to the Amazon rainforest, Colombia is inhabited by 90 distinct indigenous groups, representing one of the richest ethnic diversities globally. However, numerous groups face significant vulnerability due to the nation's ongoing armed conflict and the consequent forced displacement. At least three million individuals are internally displaced within Colombia. Children and their mothers are a common sight throughout the cold streets of Bogotá. Begging or with some art of street animation, they are trying to survive. Displaced from their lands, these children and their families arrive in the capital, fleeing the violence of the conflict.
