November 2025 - KLEZMER MUSICIANS – KRAKOW, POLAND
About the Image(s)
If there is any style of music that characterizes a group, the Klezmer style certainly characterizes Eastern European Jewry. This music itself has a lively and joyous beat that characterizes the spirit of a people that was prevalent in Eastern Europe. Many modern Jewish weddings and bar mitzvah celebrations in the United States include at least one Klezmer piece where the guests can dance and relive these joyous experiences as their European forebearers did. Usually performed with a minimum of instruments, as seen here with this image taken at a Krakow restaurant, the image depicts what it would have been like at Jewish dinner table, replete with its oilcloth tablecloth and period wallpaper in Eastern Europe in the years preceding German occupation of Europe in the mid-20th century.
