Carrying a heavy load by Ron Davis

January 2025 - Carrying a heavy load

About the Image(s)

Last month I submitted a distant photo of the Samana Santa in Malaga. This photo is a close up of the people that carried the procession floats during Samana Santa. These floats weighed 1 ½ tons and often the carriers struggled to support these loads. This photo Carrying a heavy load captured the best I could realistically obtain that showed this struggle. I could get no further back and I was shooting between people. It was the opposite conditions of last months photo.

The two images you have posted (this month and last month) together makes the start of an excellent portfolio telling the story about the procession floats. As a single image, however I think the story is somewhat limited and taken a little wider so that we can see what they are carrying might help. What you have achieved though is a great series of expressions that tell us this is hard work. Technically I don't see any problems, the main subjects are sharp, the colors look natural, and the inclusion of the onlookers is a nice addition.   Posted: 01/12/2025 18:21:38

He is a more comprehensive photo of people carrying the float. My original was more centred on the facial expressions especially guy third from left.   Posted: 01/12/2025 18:33:06

Have to agree, the more inclusive photo showing what is happening is more interesting to me. The faces are good but it's impossible to see what they are doing.   Posted: 01/12/2025 18:35:45

The facial expressions seem to be more intense in the original picture than in the larger one, that seems more interesting to me.   Posted: 01/13/2025 00:18:46
