About the Image(s)
This was taken during an initiation ceremony in Cameroun. All the young men had to disguise themselves so that they would be unrecognizable and also they performed a ritual dance. The image was taken with an OM2 ISO 250, 100mm, f 4.0, and 1/1000 sec

Very interesting costumes. Good color and focus. If the left side was cropped, I hope you can add back in the arm. More on the bottom too if possible so we can see what they are doing. More would be better in this instance.   Posted: 01/12/2025 18:08:48

Hello Muthoni
I think this is a very interesting HI image with good impact both with the story and the colors. I just love the guy with the orange glasses.
While I can see that all the men are involved in the dancing I don't have a sense of the whole event, and taken a little wider so as not to cut off the feet and arms, and include more of all of the dancers. I also note that you have used an aperture of f4 which has given you a very small depth of field. It is unfortunate that the one man facing you is not sharp as this person may have become the main subject if he was sharper.
Don't be afraid to use higher ISO in settings like this, sharpness and depth of field is more important than digital noise (that can be removed at a later date).

Hi Muthoni. Agree with others comments about the photo, great choice of subjects. Problem is that the photo has missing elements as mentioned by Leslie and Jen. I know the problem in photographing festivals unless you have a press pass its very difficult to capture complete action without others, spectators, blocking your vision. How to overcome this is take photos in short bursts and plenty of them, downside is you will have huge numbers to process. I spoke to a pro phototog at the Australia v India cricket test match held Dec 2024 and he took 12,000 photos per day.   Posted: 01/12/2025 22:32:10

Thank you for everyone's comments. I definitely should have had a smaller aperture in this instance. The whole scene was very busy and I trying to focus in on a few details and ended up making a few unfortunate crops. What do you think of this shot? Unfortunately I still have the crop on the right hand side of the shot. The settings are: ISO 250, 100mm, f4.0, 1/800 sec   Posted: 01/12/2025 23:35:20
