May 2025 - Roman soldier on cellphone
About the Image(s)
In 2006 I spent some time in Guatemala making yet another semi-futile attempt to learn Spanish. This was taken at a Semana Santa (Easter) celebration parade. They are waiting their turns to join the parade. I thought having Roman soldiers talking on cell phones was funny.
It was taken with my first digital camera, a 3MP Olympus. f/2.6, 1/125, ISO 100 @ 21mm. Not the greatest, but definitely street photography.

Hi Leslie, this image really made me laugh, reminds me of my children's school plays where they just sit around waiting for their 'moment'. I can see this is taken on an old camera, but I was surprised how sharp it is given an aperture of f2.6.
Given it is an older pic, did you have a think about how you might have taken an image like this today? - Perhaps more focus on the front subject, maybe a different angle, include more or maybe less. I agree, great street photography, and suitable for HI.   Posted: 05/06/2025 16:27:36

Hi Leslie. A very unusual shot for Semana Santa, Romans? Perhaps they were dressed like this to reenact the execution of Christ. Very colourful and bold. Would not have easily picked up cell phone unless told. Shows how small these old phones were. An excellent photo showing the diversity of dress and characters for public events.   Posted: 05/08/2025 02:00:34
