Patrons and Frida by Ron Davis

June 2025 - Patrons and Frida

About the Image(s)

This month I have presented another photo with an attempted blur, similar to Muthoni's “Steamy New York City” but trying to capture peoples behavior or reaction to displayed art. At the Bendigo Art Gallery was an exhibition devoted to Frida Kahlo. In the many art galleries I have been, viewers display a variety of behaviors in viewing. Some like me would rather center on specific pictures and move rather quickly about the gallery, others like to spend varying times looking at many or all pictures. Here we see my wife, Velia walking slowly past a large photo of Frida I wanted to show some focus of her face but not a static pose with everything sharp, this was meant to be the “glancing look”. This type of shot is very difficult to take as the speed of the shutter is so slow movement blur of the camera is a possible factor 1/15. My cooperative wife was about the only person I could ask to move past Frida and at the same time look towards her.
I have tried these types of photos before in galleries but usually through lack of cooperative models and being at an Art Gallery I should not be a photographer only. This type of photography may be a waste of time but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Process with Topaz AI Photo, with particular attention being devoted to sharpening my wife's face for motion blur. Photoshop Auto.
