October 2025 - Dry shave from a friend

Outside a mercado in Cuenca, Ecuador, this fellow was getting a seemingly painful shave from his friend. I wish I could have seen the razor, but the angle was difficult without being noticed.
Sony RX100M7, f/4.5, 1/250, ISO 100 at 72mm.

Wow - scary but compelling image. From the image it's hard to tell if the people doing the shaving are friends or adversaries. Is the shaving a favor or some kind of punishment? Posted: 10/07/2025 07:57:02
from what I could tell, the shavers were friends doing a favor, however painful it was. He was not protesting. Posted: 10/07/2025 15:03:12
Hi Leslie, I just love the expression on the man in the centre, and the close up of the other two men, but without your title/ dialogue, I don't see the story that you want to share. I do believe that is the challenge of photojournalism - to capture a story in a single image. To achieve this the razor would have to be more evident (ie in the man's hand, a signage, a half shaved face). I do like the sharpness of the 3 men, and the blurred background with minimal distractions. Posted: 10/08/2025 06:27:24
