While on my travels through North Western Queensland this year I explored the Dinosaur Trail. This trail is the uncovering of the prehistoric past of Australian’s outback regions only partially visited by western civilization in the last 150 years. Here you can see a Paleontologist scratching away to uncover a prehistoric specimen some 130 million plus years old. This work is conducted on a volunteer basis usually by retired people who has in some cases traveled some thousands of kilometers to participate. While the photo lacks a spectacular feel the work requires patience and a steady fine hand sometimes taking a whole year to reveal history. Hopefully the photo captures these slow moving qualities.

It would... if we could better see what he is working on. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to see or understand what he is doing without your explanation. It does look like tedious work.   Posted: 11/04/2025 11:11:10

Hi Ron - Interesting photo. After an initial glance, my first impression was of a doctor operating on a patient. I suppose the gentleman probably is a doctor - just not a medical one - and the "patient" isn't human. The sanitary conditions would be different if this were surgery, but the level of intensity and concentration of the subject still reminds me of surgery.   Posted: 11/04/2025 15:18:52

This was a difficult photo to capture, the man was behind a low fence, "keep away just look at a distance". The piece he is working on to reveal is wrapped in a tight casing as these have been stored for sometime waiting to worked on. In view of the parameters of HI, photo only to reveal the story, it is probably not worth the effort, only way to capture is to get behind the paleontologist with permission from the management and then take the photo. This would probably only be aloud if you were photographing for promotional purposes, not a curious amateur.   Posted: 11/04/2025 16:51:58
