ANZAC DAY by Jen Fawkes, EPSA, SPSA

May 2026 - ANZAC DAY

About the Image(s)

In Australia, April 25th is ANZAC DAY. ANZAC stands for the Australian & New Zealand Army Corp. It’s a national day of remembrance, where our country honours the men and women who have served for our country in any war that Australia has participated in. Across our nation are dawn services, parades of service men/ women and families, and ceremonies of some kind in every activity. This image was taken at our local football game. In between the reserves and seniors games, was a short but moving ceremony, and there is always a reading of the ‘Ode of Remembrance’ and someone playing ‘the Last Post’ on the bugle.

The image was taken on Olympus EM1Mk2 with Olympus 100-400mm @285mm.
You can see that I was primarily there to photograph the sporting action, so my settings are all wrong for an image like this.
F6.2, ISO 1000, SS 1/3200.

I wouldn't say the settings are all wrong. The background is a bit bright, but a bit of dodging might be in order if that is allowed. It looks like a properly solemn occasion.   Posted: 05/17/2026 18:30:18

Hi Jen, A solemn trio, spotlighted by the sun, ascending triangle composition, and all the elements of the ceremony. An excellent photo of the commemoration. I love the soft background from the tele lens that makes the figures stand out. Karl Leck Group 03   Posted: 05/17/2026 20:21:40
